Please join the Mad River Riders or renew your membership this season. With new trail projects, major trail upgrades and a full calendar of parties, clinics, group rides and festivals, the Mad River Riders (MRR) and the Vermont Mountain Bike Association (VMBA) are excited to share all the fun we have planned in 2015.
By becoming a member, you support vital local trail building, landowner relationships and recreation programs. Last year, the Riders maintained 40 miles of trails, added another new beginner trail and refreshed several existing routes. We have built official partnerships with the USFS-Green Mountain National Forest, VT-Forests,Parks&Recreation, several town forests and numerous private landowners.
We helped attract nearly $160,000 of community investment for the Mad River Valley, featuring large trail grants and remarkable volunteer contributions. Mad River Riders’ volunteers donated almost 1700 hours of work in 2014.
Our free programs, like the Mad River Rippers kids’ group rides and Ali Zimmer’s Women’s Wednesday Clinics, served over 100 youth and women riders in 2014. The 2015 schedule and program offerings have grown significantly.
This season, we are managing a major reroute project on Chain Gang and adding another new trail at Blueberry Lake. We are also working on final approvals for Evolution, a new intermediate trail that will parallel Cyclone to the top of Dana Hill, and planning new trails, loops and reroutes near Marble Hill on the VLT-conserved Tenney property in conjunction with the Catamount Trail Association and the Mad River Path.Based on trail counter data, the MRR’s trails are the most popular recreation destinations in the Mad River Valley for hiking, biking, snowshoeing and fat biking. Please encourage fellow trail users to join the MRR, regardless of how they enjoy our trails. Half of our trail visits are on foot.
Mad River Riders members get the full benefits of VMBA membership, including shop discounts at a wide range of outdoor gear stores, free day passes to most VT bike parks and paid networks, 2-for-1 ski tickets to many VT resorts, and much more. As a chapter of VMBA, the MRR are allowed to build and maintain trails on state and USFS land, we get better access to grant funding, and are part of a strong state-wide community of trail builders and riders.
We encourage everyone to support at least one other VMBA chapter through the $25 chapter add-on program. The newly formed Waterbury Area Trail Alliance (WATA) is an excellent choice, especially as they now manage the nearby Perry Hill trails. Millstone Trails has become a chapter and we know many of you like to ride there. Fellowship of the Wheel and RASTA are great neighbors too.
From Blueberry Lake and Revolution to the top of Camel’s Hump State Forest and Phen Basin, the Riders are committed to providing fun sustainable year-round multi-use trails for all ages and abilities, beginner to expert.
Please join the Mad River Riders.
